Helping Others, One Connection at a Time

I run an outreach program at my church, and I have met quite a few people this way. Some I know just for the day, but there are others that I develop lifelong relationships with. One young woman who came in to receive some free groceries stayed to help, and she started coming back on a regular basis. I got to know her and her story very well, and I kind of took her under my wing. The first thing I did for her was inquire about high speed Internet for the Bronx area.

We had several computers donated to our outreach center, and I could tell she wanted to use one. When I offered one to her, she explained that she did not have Internet access at home. I knew that she and her husband would not be able to afford it, no matter how low the cost. That is why I wanted to find out the price, to see if I would be able to swing it myself. What I found was pretty amazing, because I saw that she would be able to have it for a lot lower than what I was paying for my own Internet connection.

I had looked this information up just to help her out, and I ended up switching to the same Internet service provider that I arranged for her to have. I wasn’t paying that much more per month for both of us to have it, and that’s saying a lot. I also arranged for her to have some night classes so she could start working toward a degree to help her family finances out. Having that computer and Internet connection was a huge blessing in her being able to complete that night class, and I have a feeling she is really going to shine soon!
